What is a Refund from Surplus?
Our Refund from Surplus is a financial return distributed to eligible policyholder(s) when our company preforms well. For 2025, BCM Insurance is proud to return 10% of premiums paid on qualifying property policies.
This applies to the following property lines:
- Home Insurance
- Commercial Insurance
- Farm Insurance
If you are an eligible policyholder with BCM Insurance, you will be receiving your refund cheque and letter by mail very soon.
Who is Eligible for the 2025 Refund?
To qualify for the 2025 Refund from Surplus, you must:
- Have held a property policy with BCM Insurance for the full 2025 Calendar year (i.e. policy effective January 1, 2025, or sooner).
- Be insured under one of the eligible lines (home, commercial, farm).
If you meet these criteria, your refund is already on its way, no further action is required!
Why Do Mutuals Give Money Back?
Unlike traditional insurance companies, BCM Insurance operates as a mutual insurance. This means that we are owned by our policyholders, not outside shareholders.
When a shareholder owned company preforms well, the profits are distributed to investors, not you.
At BCM:
- There are no external shareholders
- Profits are reinvested into the company or refunded directly to you
- Profits are also donated back into the communities that we live and work in (BCM’s Community Grants Program).
